LONDON, June 25 -- Artumas Group Inc., Calgary, recently tested the Msimbati-1X (MS-1X) discovery well on its Mnazi Bay concession in southern Tanzania along with the MB-2 and MB-3 appraisal wells and reported that gas flow "exceeded expectations" for production potential.

The MS-1X well flowed 9.2 MMcfd of gas from a 30½-ft interval of the K-2 reservoir through a 28/64-in. choke with 2,153 psi flowing wellhead pressure. The well, 2½ km southeast of the Mnazi Bay-3 wellsite, was drilled to 6,570 ft TD (OGJ Online, Apr. 5, 2007). It produced 60 b/d of 27° gravity oil.

The MB-2 appraisal well flowed 10.7 MMcfd of gas and 15 b/d of 25° gravity oil from a 19½-ft interval of the completed F reservoir only through a 28/64-in. choke with 2,446 psi flowing wellhead pressure.

The MB-3 well also produced 10.9 MMcfd of gas, but from a 24½-ft interval of the completed G reservoir. Gas flowed through a 28/64-in. choke with 2,469 psi wellhead pressure, and 14 b/d of 25° gravity oil were recovered. The well was completed as a G reservoir producer, Artumas said.

The wells also produced 25-27° gravity liquid hydrocarbons. Cumulative production of hydrocarbon liquids during the production testing of MB-2, MB-3, and MS-1X totaled 89 b/d, Artumas said.

Artumas is carrying out further independent laboratory tests to determine location and volumes of oil, and commerciality.

Meanwhile, the company is shooting a 2D seismic survey over the Mnazi Bay concession to define the specific area over which to shoot a 3D seismic survey later this year. Exploration drilling is scheduled for 2008.
