HOUSTON, May 15 -- Gran Tierra Energy Inc., Calgary, set casing to test a field wildcat that logged potential oil pay in four Cretaceous zones on the Chaza Block in the Putumayo basin in southern Colombia.

Gran Tierra, 50-50 partner with Solana Resources Ltd., also of Calgary, said the Costayaco-1 well went to TD 8,570 ft, and logs indicated pay in the Rumiyaco, Villeta U and T, and Caballos formations.

Gran Tierra is drillstem testing the same four zones at its Juanambu-1 discovery on the adjacent Guayuyaco block. The zones produce in fields on the adjacent Gran Tierra-operated Santana and Guayuyaco blocks.

The companies plan to shoot an infill seismic survey over the Costayaco structure.

Solana said the four zones at Costayaco-1 might contain upwards of 10 separate reservoirs of interest and that the well is near infrastructure.
