US rig count falls by 22 units

US drilling fell by 22 units from last week to 1,747 rotary rigs working this week, said Baker Hughes Inc. This total is up by 139 rigs from this time last year when 1,608 rigs were drilling in the US.

HOUSTON, Apr. 27 -- US drilling fell by 22 units from last week to 1,747 rotary rigs working this week, said Baker Hughes Inc. This total is up by 139 rigs from this time last year when 1,608 rigs were drilling in the US.

Land operations accounted for the bulk of this week's loss, down by 18 to 1,644 rotary rigs drilling. Inland-water activity decreased by 1 units to 30. Offshore operations were also down, by 3 rigs, with 73 rotary units working in US waters, including 72 in the Gulf of Mexico.

Texas posted the largest loss among the major producing states, down by 13 rigs to 823 making hole. Louisiana followed with a loss of 6 rigs to 183 active. Colorado lost 5 rigs to 109, and Alaska, California, and New Mexico were all down 2 rigs each, to 6, 33, and 74 units working, respectively. Oklahoma's rig count was 177, down 1 rig from the previous week. Wyoming was the only big producing state to show a gain: up 8 rigs to 79 units drilling.

Canada's rig count fell by 17 rigs to 81, down from 150 in the same period a year ago.
