HOUSTON, Apr. 25 -- Independent Dana Gas, Sharjah, signed agreements with the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq to study gas development and utilization potential in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Under terms of a strategic alliance protocol, Dana Gas and its Crescent Petroleum affiliate will launch an industrial gas complex concept known as "Kurdistan Gas City" designed to promote private sector investment and employment.

Under a separate service contract, Dana Gas will develop, process, and transport gas from Khor Mor gas field on a fast track basis.

Dana Gas also will appraise Chemchemal gas field, which is needed to supply power plants under construction near the cities of Erbil and Suleymania, by January 2008. For this purpose, Dana Gas will divert a state-of-the-art gas processing plant nearing completion that it had previously acquired for another project in order to circumvent the typical 2-year lead time required for new construction, the company said.

Chemchemal was a 1953 discovery in the Mesopotamian foredeep east of Kirkuk with gas-condensate in fractured Upper Cretaceous Shiranish carbonates and Turonian Kometan limestone. Khor Mor is southeast of Kirkuk (see map, OGJ, Mar. 24, 2003, p. 43). Each field is believed capable of delivering several hundred million cubic feet of gas a day.
