WASHINGTON, DC, Apr. 24 -- Kinder Morgan Louisiana Pipeline LLC's proposed Louisiana gas pipeline project moved closer to final federal approval Apr. 20 when the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued its final environmental impact statement.

FERC concluded that the 140-mile pipeline from the Sabine Pass LNG terminal—currently under construction—to the national pipeline and underground storage grid would be environmentally acceptable with appropriate mitigation measures.

The full commission must yet issue a final approval for the project, which will provide 3.2 bcfd of takeaway capacity from the terminal (OGJ, Sept. 4, 2006, p. 85).

KM said construction could begin as early as July 2008, and the pipeline could go into service during 2009's first quarter.
