LONDON, Mar. 13 -- Total E&P Norge AS has drilled a dry hole in its wildcat well 6406/8-2 in the Norwegian Sea, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

Total used the semisubmersible drilling rig Ocean Vanguard to drill to a TD of 4,700 m and target rocks from the Early Jurassic Age. NPD said the well, on Production License 323, aimed to examine the oil and gas potential in a Jurassic prospect called Hans about 45 km northwest of Njord field.

The company has permanently plugged and abandoned the well. Statoil ASA will now take over the Ocean Vanguard for drilling on the Snorre oil and gas field in the Tampen area of the Norwegian North Sea.

Licensees in PL 323 are Total 40%, Statoil 20%, AS Norske Shell 20%, and Eni Norge 20%.
