BANGKOK, Mar. 6 -- Thailand's PTT Exploration & Production PCL (PTTEP) tested natural gas in its two latest exploration wells on Block M9 in Myanmar's Gulf of Mataban.
The Gawthaka-1 well, drilled to 3,380 m, cut five gas-bearing zones with combined net pay of 56 m.
Tubing stem tests (TSTs) of two zones flowed gas at an equipment-restricted rate of 15 MMcfd.
The other well, Kakonna-1, reached 3,391 m and penetrated eight gas-bearing zones with combined net pay of 77 m.
TSTs of two zones yielded 30 MMcfd of gas.
PTTEP Pres. Maroot Mrigadat said the test results on the two wells, along with the recent Zawtika-1A gas strike, raise confidence in gas potential of the eastern area of the 27,000-sq-km block (OGJ Online, Jan. 2, 2007).
Zawtika-1A, drilled in December last year to 3,567 m TD, flowed a combined 71.4 MMcfd during tests.
The majority-state-owned firm will drill exploration well Zawtika-2 and four or five appraisal wells.
It also will plan development of gas in the area with the aim of starting production in 2011 or 2012 for local use and for export to Thailand.
