PetroLatina names Berends chief executive

PetroLatina Energy PLC has appointed Rudolph Berends chief executive.

HOUSTON, Mar. 13 -- PetroLatina Energy PLC has appointed Rudolph Berends chief executive.

Berends has more than 34 years of oil and gas experience, 15 of which have been in South America.

Most recently, Berends served as chief executive for Mercantile International Petroleum Inc., an oil and gas company with assets in Colombia and Peru. Berends sold the company in a private sale in 2006.

Previously, he served as president of Preussag Energie Americas, where he was responsible for the company's upstream activities in Latin America, the US, and Canada. The company was sold to OMV in late 2001.

Berends started his career as an explorationist with Shell in the early 1970s.
