HOUSTON, Mar. 12 -- Oil services giant Halliburton Co. plans to move its corporate headquarters from Houston to Dubai, Chief Executive Officer Dave Lesar announced Mar. 11 during an energy conference in Bahrain.

Lesar said he will spend most of his time in Dubai, overseeing Halliburton's intensified focus on business in the Mideast and Asia.

"The Eastern Hemisphere is a market that is more heavily weighted toward oil exploration and production opportunities and growing our business here will bring more balance to Halliburton's overall portfolio," Lesar said.

The opening of a Dubai headquarters is the next step in a strategic plan announced in 2006 to focus on expanding Halliburton's customer relations with national oil companies, a news release on the Halliburton web site said.
