PARIS, Mar. 13 -- In a move aimed at providing exploration and production development opportunities for Gaz de France in Norway, Terje Overvik has been appointed vice-president of Gaz de France Norge, a fully owned affiliate of Gaz de France.

Since 1983 Overvik has held a number of positions on various Norwegian North Sea fields and installations including Zeepipe, Heidrun, and Statfjord. A member of Statoil's Executive Committee since 2002, he was vice-president of Statfjord operations, director of the technology department, and since 2004, director of Statoil's exploration-development and production (Norway).

Overvik's experience will help Gaz de France develop its offshore operator role in Norway, including Gjoa field from 2010 and Blocks 34/6 and 35/4 awarded in 2006, said Jean-Marie Dauger, vice-president delegate of Gaz de France and president of Gaz de France Norge's board of directors.

In 1997 Norway became France's main natural gas supplier, and in 2005 it accounted for 30% of Gaz de France's long-term gas supplies. Gaz de France assumed its first foothold in properties off Norway in 2001.
