LONDON, Feb. 26 -- Maurel & Prom has plugged and abandoned its Tioni-1 exploration well in the Kouilou permit in Congo (Brazzaville) because it was a dry hole.

M&P, operator of the license with a 65% stake, targeted the Vandji sandstone reservoir. The predrill prospect size was estimated at 20 million gross bbl.

An M&P spokeswoman told OGJ it drilled the well to TD 2,750 m.

Eni SPA has offered to buy 50% of M&P's stake, which would reduce its interest to 15% if the deal goes ahead following approval from the Congolese authorities and M&P's partners.
