HOUSTON, Feb. 2 -- BP PLC has appointed Andy Inglis as a group managing director and as chief executive officer of BP Exploration & Production.
Inglis succeeds Tony Hayward in the BP E&P chief executive role, allowing Hayward to focus on the transition into his previously announced new role as group chief executive, effective at the end of July when John Browne steps down from that post (OGJ Online, Jan. 15, 2007).
Inglis joined BP in 1980 as a mechanical engineer, working on various North Sea projects. He served in a number of E&P posts before moving to Alaska in 1994 to serve as manager for Kuparuk oil field. He returned to London in 1996 as chief of staff for the upstream business and from 1997-99 he was responsible for leading BP's activities in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
That same year following the merger of BP and Amoco, Inglis became vice-president, US Western Gas. In September 2000, he joined the upstream executive committee as a group vice-president and most recently in 2004 was appointed executive vice-president and also deputy chief executive of E&P.
