HOUSTON, Feb. 22 -- CNOOC Ltd. has decided to replace a platform jacket found last year to have been deformed in a gas field under development in the Pearl River Mouth basin of the South China Sea.
Its aim is to accelerate start-up of production from Panyu (PY)30-1 field in 195 m of water 240 km southeast of Hong Kong. The company announced its decision to make advanced payment on the new jacket.
CNOOC reported last June that Offshore Oil Engineering Corp. Ltd., an affiliate, had discovered underwater deformation of the initial jacket during an inspection by a remotely operated vehicle. There was no other facility damage. CNOOC has since dismantled topside modules.
OOEC installed the 213 m high, 25,200-ton platform jacket with Hydro Marine Services' Intermac 650 barge, which had been modified to load out and float off platform decks and jackets. Rig Design Services Ltd., London, designed the platform rig (OGJ Online, May 16, 2006).
