HOUSTON, Feb. 26 -- Double Eagle Petroleum Co., Casper, Wyo., plans to contract a larger rig to drill to Jurassic Nugget and possibly to Mississippian Madison carbonates at the Christmas Meadows Prospect in the Uinta basin of Utah.
The company drilled the Table Top Unit-1 wildcat in Summit County to TD 15,760 ft and plans to plug back to the base of 9.625-in. casing at 11,393 ft and deepen using a larger rig to Nugget at 18,000 ft.
The well has met the requirement for the unit test, extending the term of 41,000 acres of leases for 2 years. The participating companies will form a new federal exploratory unit to test the deeper objectives, Double Eagle said (OGJ, Oct. 2, 2006, p. 15).
The well did not find reservoir rocks with sufficient permeability in the Cretaceous, but the structural position and seismic lines that have been shot appear to support the existence of a large anticline. Dip meter data and drift while drilling suggest that the anticline's crest is a half-mile to the southeast, Double Eagle said.
The company will rework the seismic with known velocities and try to steer the well to the crest at the Nugget depth. It will consider drilling to Madison at 23,000 ft.
