HOUSTON, Feb. 19 -- Plastics company Borouge has signed a $1.3 billion lump-sum, turnkey contract with Germany's Linde Group for the construction of an ethylene cracker—part of a major expansion project at Borouge's production facility in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi.
The 1.5 million tonne/year cracker will triple production capacity at the facility to 2 million tpy of polyolefins.
The Borouge project also will include a 752,000 tpy olefins conversion unit, two 800,000 tpy Borstar polypropylene plants, and a 540,000 tpy Borstar enhanced polyethylene plant.
Preliminary work is already under way and completion is scheduled for 2010.
