LONDON, Jan. 25 -- Woodside Energy (Kenya) Pty. Ltd. will not drill the Sokwe South well in Kenya because it did not find hydrocarbons at the nearby Pomboo well, joint venture partner Global Petroleum Ltd. said.

Sokwe, in license L-7, was identified as one of two exploration targets during the JV's 2007 drilling program. Global said the partners have found many prospects and leads in licenses L5 and L7.

Global said the partners will talk about the new information learned from the Pomboo well to determine the next step of their exploration program over the next 3-6 months. Pomboo will be plugged and abandoned after turning up dry (OGJ Online, Jan. 23, 2007).

Partners in the two projects are operator Woodside 30%, Dana Petroleum PLC 30%, Global Petroleum 20%, and Repsol YPF SA 20%.
