HOUSTON, Jan. 18 -- Talisman (Vietnam 15-2/01) Ltd. reported that its Hai Su Trang (HST) exploration well on Block 15-2/01 about 50 miles off eastern Vietnam has tested at a combined rate of 14,863 b/d of oil through a 2-in. choke at an average surface pressure of 450 psi.

Drilled to a TVD of 10,888 ft, the HST well is on trend with large oil and gas discoveries in the Cuu Long basin. It encountered a hydrocarbon-bearing interval of 268 ft in the Lower Miocene zone, including about 170 ft of net pay.

The HST discovery is on a separate fault block updip and adjacent to the 2005 Te Giac Trang (TGT Block 16-1) discovery. A sidetrack is being drilled to penetrate the TGT Block 16-1 structure to determine how much of the TGT Block 16-1 discovery extends into Block 15-2/01. Plans are to follow the TGT Block 16-1 sidetrack with an appraisal sidetrack on the HST structure.

Talisman said the shallow water environment of Block 15-2/01 should allow quick progress and management of development costs.

Thang Long Joint Operating Co., established to conduct all operations on Block 15-2/01, plans to drill three new wildcat exploration wells this year to evaluate features on trend with the HST discovery.

Talisman holds a 60% interest in Block 15-2/01 and Petrovietnam E&P Co. holds the remaining 40%.
