Statoil approved for Aasgard exploration well

Statoil ASA plans to drill by February the 6507/11-8 exploration well on the Aasgard oil and gas development in the Norwegian Sea. The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority approved the project Jan. 17.

LONDON, Jan. 19 -- Statoil ASA plans to drill by February the 6507/11-8 exploration well on the Aasgard oil and gas development in the Norwegian Sea. The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority approved the project Jan. 17.

Stena Drilling's Stena Don semisubmersible will drill the well, which will be located north of Midgard field on Production License 062. It is about 36 km east of the Aasgard A production and storage ship and about 25 km south of Heidrun field.

Statoil said it will drill for 45 days.
