HOUSTON, Jan. 26 -- Pearl Energy Ltd., a unit of Aabar Petroleum Investments Co. PJSC of Abu Dhabi, on Jan. 22 began oil production at an initial rate of 2,300 b/d from a single development well at the Jasmine B platform in the Gulf of Thailand.

The Jasmine B Platform is connected via a 3.8-km pipeline to the Jasmine Venture MV7 floating production, storage, and offloading vessel.

The start of production at Jasmine B follows installation of the platform's 1,100-tonne processing topsides in late October 2006 and drilling of the first batch of six development wells that began Dec. 27, 2006. The B2 well is the first of these to go on line. It will be followed by the five other development wells that will be brought online in the next few days. These wells constitute the initial phase of a drilling program comprising a total of 16 development wells and 6 water disposal wells.

"[Jasmine B production] follows Platform A, which came on stream in June 2005, has performed beyond our expectations, and maintains a healthy production rate," said Chief Operating Officer Chris Gibson-Robinson. Jasmine A had produced 5.3 million bbl by yearend 2006.

Gibson-Robinson said a third platform, Platform C, will be ready for development drilling in the next couple of months and will further boost output for Pearl.

In addition, the company is reviewing the commercial viability of adding two more production platforms in and around the Jasmine production area following its successful 14-well exploration program in the first half of 2006.
