Pakistan awards two exploration licenses

Pakistan has granted two petroleum exploration licenses (PELs) to a joint venture of Orient Petroleum International Inc. (OPII) and Zaver Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (ZPCL) for the 1,793 sq km Marwat Block 3170-2 and 2,360 sq km Maharvi Block 2972-3.

KARACHI, Jan. 25 -- Pakistan has granted two petroleum exploration licenses (PELs) to a joint venture of Orient Petroleum International Inc. (OPII) and Zaver Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (ZPCL) for the 1,793 sq km Marwat Block 3170-2 and 2,360 sq km Maharvi Block 2972-3.

Marwat Block lies in Laki Marwat, Tank, DI Khan, and South Waziristan in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (Zone-I), and Maharvi Block lies in Bahwalpur, Bahwalnager, and Vehari in Punjab Province (Zone-II).

The JV will invest a combined $4.8 million on the PELs during an initial 3-year period to carry out geological and geophysical studies, acquire 2D seismic data, and drill one exploratory well.

Operator OPII is incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, and ZPCL is a Pakistan company.
