HOUSTON, Jan. 16 -- Gran Tierra Energy Inc., Calgary, has tested a deeper oil pool accumulation with the Puesto Climaco-2D (D-2) sidetrack well on the Vinalar Block in the Noroeste basin of northern Argentina.

The well is the first to be drilled in the company's 10-well program in Argentina and Colombia this year. Six of these wells will be drilled in the next 3 months, Gran Tierra said.

Reaching 3,720 m TMD (3,612 m TVD) on Jan. 4, the Puesto Climaco-2D (D-2) well encountered good hydrocarbon shows in five zones. Three of the zones are proved reservoirs (22.5 m of potential net pay); the other two zones are unproved reservoirs (13 m of potential net pay). The hole was cased and logged, and the Puesto Guardian sandstone was perforated from 3,650-62 m MD.

Four tests were conducted with four choke sizes. Light oil flowed at a maximum rate of 2,825 b/d (gross before royalty) through a 35/64-in. choke, with a consistent flowing tubing pressure at the wellhead of 1,720-50 psi. The rig is being demobilized.

Production and oil sales have begun through infrastructure already in place. Gross production volumes are stabilized through a 16/64-in. choke at 1,200 bo/d (600 b/d net before royalty to the company).

An evaluation of reserves associated with this reservoir is pending, as reservoir performance continues to be monitored. The shallower formations with hydrocarbon shows are being considered for testing at a future time.

Gran Tierra holds a 50% working interest in the Vinalar Block.
