LONDON, Jan. 11 -- Eni Norge has found an oil column in the Kobbe formation from the Middle Triassic Age after completing its sidetrack 7122/7-5 A on the Goliat main structure and the 7122/7-5 wildcat well on Goliat West structure in Norway.

Eni Norge, the operator of production license 229, is evaluating the oil column to calculate the resources of Goliat. The license is 50 km southeast of Snøhvit field and 85 km northwest of Hammerfest.

Wildcat well 7122/7-5 was drilled to 2,205 m TD subsea in rocks from the Early Triassic Age using the Polar Pioneer drilling rig. The sidetrack 7122/7-5 A was drilled to a TD of 1,950 m subsea and completed in Middle Triassic rocks. Additional drilling is planned on the license in the fall.

The Polar Pioneer now will drill wildcat well 7125/4-1 on the Nucula prospect for Norsk Hydro AS in PL 393 in the Barents Sea.

PL 229 licensees are operator Eni 65%, Statoil ASA 20%, and DNO 15%.
