HOUSTON, Dec. 11 -- The ministry awarded exploration rights to Block 84 in the Masila basin to a group led by DNO ASA, Oslo, subject to government approval and ratification of a production sharing agreement.

The group plans to gather 3D seismic data and drill 4 exploration wells in the 42-month first exploration period. The block is adjacent to Nexen Inc.'s oil-producing Masila Block.

Block 84 interests are DNO 34%, TransGlobe Energy Corp., Calgary, 33%, and Ansan Wikfs (Hadramaut) Ltd. 33%.
