Toreador reports Akcakoca, other well tests

A group led by Toreador Resources Corp., Dallas, is scheduled to begin testing the Akcakoca-3 well—the 10th successful well drilled in the South Akcakoca subbasin project in the Black Sea off Turkey.

HOUSTON, Dec. 15 -- A group led by Toreador Resources Corp., Dallas, is scheduled to begin testing the Akcakoca-3 well—the 10th successful well drilled in the South Akcakoca subbasin project in the Black Sea off Turkey.

Drilled to a bottomhole location 300 m south of the Akcakoca-1 location and higher on structure, Akcakoa-3 encountered 81 m net gas-bearing sands between 1,146 m and 1,545 m, its TVD, in seven zones in the Eocene Kusuri formation. The top of the Kusuri in the Akcakoca-3 is 500 m deeper than the same producing formations in the 2004 Ayazli-1 discovery well.

Toreador said logs and pressure tests indicate more pay zones than originally prognosticated. The company is expected to complete the well and begin a testing program to further define the reserve potential in the deeper waters of the project area.

Meanwhile, construction of the onshore production center is nearing completion, and testing of major equipment and systems is expected to begin this month. Offshore pipeline construction is slightly behind schedule because of bad weather, but it is scheduled for completion in January.

The Dogu Ayazli tripod has been set, and the Dogu Ayazli-1 and 2 wells are being recompleted. Toreador expects to tie them back in late December after which topsides for the Akkaya and Dogu Ayazli tripods will be installed. The Ayazli tripod is scheduled for installation in February.

Initial production is expected in January as the production center and gathering system are commissioned. The Ayazli platform will be brought on line once installation and well completion activities are complete in first quarter, 2007.

Hungary
In Hungary, Toreador has reentered and completed the KIHA-15 well as a gas producer. During production testing, gas flowed at 1.7 MMcfd, with no associated liquids, through a 1/4 in. choke at slightly over 1,300 psi. Production was from 9 m of perforations at 1,180-89 m in Miocene Badenian carbonates, with net pay estimated at 35 m true vertical thickness. The well's estimated gas reserves are 3.5 bcf.

Operations have begun on the Ot-Ny-5 well reentry, and production testing is scheduled to begin soon. The 1992 well targets Cretaceous-age carbonates that tested 1.6 MMcfd but were never put on production.

Romania
In Romania, preparations are under way to spud the first exploration well in Toreador's Viperesti block. The Naeni-2 Bis will be drilled to about 1,400 m to test the lower compartment of an overturned anticline in Miocene-age Sarmatian sands, and it will continue on to test some deeper Meotian sands.

A second well, the Naeni-6, is scheduled to spud the week of Dec. 18. It will target 2,000 m to test the upper compartment of the Sarmatian overturned anticline as well as deeper horizons. The unrisked potential reserves of the Naeni prospect are estimated at about 6-50 million boe.
