BANGKOK, Dec. 5 -- Mitsui Oil Exploration Co. has made an oil and gas discovery with its first exploration well in north-central Thailand.

Arunothai-1, on Block L10/43 in Sukhothai province, flowed 1,254 b/d of 40-45º gravity crude and 720 Mcfd of gas.

MOE spudded the well in July and reached target depth in late August, after which a series of tubing stem tests were conducted at two oil zones.

The company said it plans to drill further exploratory wells to assess additional hydrocarbon potential on Block L10/43 and its adjacent tract, L11/43.

The two blocks abut Block S1, where Sirikit field, Thailand's largest oil field, is producing about 18,000 b/d of oil.

MOE, through its subsidiary Siam Moeco Ltd., has a 70% interest in the two blocks, while GS Caltex Corp. holds 30%.
