WASHINGTON, DC, Dec. 21 -- US President George W. Bush signed into law on Dec. 20 the tax relief and health care bill that includes S. 3711, which reopens to oil and gas leasing acreage in the eastern Gulf of Mexico that Bush had withdrawn in 2001 and adds adjacent tracts in deeper water.

The bill also will give directly adjacent coastal states a share of federal OCS oil and gas leasing revenues for the first time, while extending several tax credits for conservation, energy efficiency, and alternative fuels (OGJ, Dec. 18, 2006, p. 30).
