LONDON, Dec. 15 -- Afren PLC, London, has confirmed an eastern extension of Okoro oil field off Nigeria, which it and AMNI International Petroleum Development Co. Ltd. of Nigeria plan to develop with nearby Setu oil field (OGJ Online, Oct. 18, 2006).

The Seadrill 7 jack up drilled the Okoro-3 appraisal well vertically to the Miocene Agbada formation at 6,500 ft TD in shallow water of the Niger Delta.

The well confirmed hydrocarbon contacts encountered in two sandstone formations between 4,900 ft and 5,500 ft in the Okoro-1 discovery 1.5 km west.

After logging and testing the well, the jack up drilled a deviated sidetrack to 6,870 ft TD at a maximum inclination of 55º west of the vertical hole.

Afren, technical operator, said the appraisal drilling cut a total of 70 ft TVD of net oil pay.

It will submit a field development plan for Okoro and Setu fields, which were discovered in the 1970s, to the Nigerian government in January. It plans to use the GlobaSantaFe Adriatic VI jack up for a 9-month development program starting in third-quarter 2007.

The company hopes to start production of 15,000-20,000 b/d in early 2008.
