HOUSTON, Nov. 29 -- Norway's Statoil ASA has let a contract to a unit of John Wood Group PLC to perform feasibility and conceptual studies for facilities modifications associated with the Trestakk subsea field development expected to be tied into the Aasgard platform in the Norwegian Sea.

The £2 million contract commits Wood Group Engineering (North Sea) (WGENS) to evaluate options for the topsides modifications on the Aasgard A and Kristin floating production facilities and to verify the alternatives required for concept selection. Wood Group aims to prepare the selected concept to the required level for full project sanction.

The project involves a number of challenges in high-pressure, high-temperature systems, Statoil said.

WGENS also is obligated to provide feasibility and conceptual studies for the Morvin subsea development, which may be tied in to either the Aasgard or Kristin facilities. Studies for Statoil's Heidrun platform were previously provided by Wood Group.
