LONDON, Nov. 13 -- OMV Austria Exploration & Production GMBH is contemplating acid-gas injection for enhanced recovery at undeveloped Strasshof gas field near Vienna.

It let a $5 million contract to Petrofac of the UK for front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies of development of two Strassfhof dolomite reservoirs.

The operator's Strasshof T4 exploration well discovered gas in the Reyersdorfer dolomite at 3,200 m and Perchtoldsdorfer dolomite at 4,300 m last year (OGJ Online, Apr. 21, 2005). OMV estimated the field can produce a total of as much as 140 bcf of gas over 20 years.

Petrofac will study two options for production of gas with 3% hydrogen sulfide content: sulfur recovery and acid-gas reinjection for enhanced recovery.

The FEED work also includes design of a multiphase gathering network, an export pipeline for 1.9 million cu m/day of gas, a condensate-water export pipeline, and an acid-gas injection pipeline.
