LONDON, Oct. 20 -- Talisman Energy (UK) Ltd. made an oil discovery on Block 20/5a in the Outer Moray Firth in the UK North Sea.

The 20/5a-10y exploratory well encountered oil-bearing sandstones of Upper Jurassic age and two separate Jurassic sandstone reservoirs. On test, the well flowed at a combined 11,000 b/d of 39º gravity oil.

Block 20/5a is 3 km north of Talisman-operated Buchan oil field and 120 km southwest of the Tweedsmuir South oil field, in which Talisman has 94.43% interest.

A Talisman spokesman told OGJ that the company hopes to complete a seismic appraisal by the middle of next year. "After that we hope to do a sidetrack well by the end of 2007 or early 2008 to delineate the structure to the east and prove up more reserves, depending on what the seismic information tells us," he added.

Talisman has a 94.43% equity interest in Block 20/5a. First Oil Expro Ltd. holds the remaining 5.57%.
