HOUSTON, Oct. 27 -- Oil and gas production resumed this week from the Statoil ASA-operated Snorre A platform and Vigdis field following an Oct. 13 shut-in due to insufficient lifeboat capacity on the Snorre A installation, from which Vigdis oil is processed.

The insufficient lifeboat capacity was realized after a study conducted by Norwegian Oil Industry Association identified weaknesses in the certified Umoe Schat-Harding FF48II lifeboat type, including that lifeboat's inability to be launched from the installations by free fall (OGJ Online, Oct. 16, 2006).

Lifeboat capacity has now sufficiently improved following repair work on the particular lifeboats.

Work continues to upgrade the remaining lifeboat capacity on Snorre A. The number of platform personnel will increase as lifeboats are repaired.

Snorre A and Vigdis were producing 115,000 boe/d and 85,000 boe/d, respectively, before production was shut-down.
