HOUSTON, Oct. 5 -- Petrofac Malaysia has begun production from Cendor oil field on Block PM304 off Malaysia.

The field's oil production averaged 3,500 b/d from one of the expected seven development wells scheduled in the first phase. Five of these wells already have been drilled. The wells are being brought on stream selectively to allow testing of the reservoir over the coming weeks.

With proved reserves of 24.6 million bbl of oil, the field will be developed using a mobile offshore production unit connected to a spread-moored floating, storage, and offloading unit via a flexible submarine pipeline. Petrofac said the MOPU will be the first to be deployed in Malaysian waters.

Petrofac has a 30% interest in and operates the field on behalf of Petronas, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co., and PetroVietnam Investment Development Co.
