HOUSTON, Oct. 6 -- ExxonMobil Canada Properties Ltd., operator of the Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP) off Nova Scotia, has contracted Halifax marine contractor Dominion Diving Ltd. to provide remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services for SOEP's ongoing subsea inspection and maintenance of project fields and pipelines.

Under the 5-year contract, effective Oct. 1, Dominion Diving will provide a crew of hydraulic and electronics specialists and an ROV custom-built for Canada's offshore East Coast and capable of diving to 3,000 ft. The ROV will collect subsea images and sonar data.

The $2 billion SOEP consists of three offshore platforms, a 125-mile subsea pipeline, gas-processing and fractionation plants, and a 650-mile gas sales pipeline to New England.

The project produces 400-500 MMcfd of gas and 20,000 b/d of natural gas liquids (NGLs). Preliminary processing of gas from Thebaud field and from existing satellite platforms, Alma, North Triumph, Venture, and South Venture, takes place on the Thebaud processing platform, the hub of SOEP's offshore activity. The gas is then sent via 200 km subsea pipeline to the 17 million cu m/day Goldboro gas processing plant in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia.

NGLs separated out at the Goldboro plant are delivered to the Point Tupper fractionation plant near Port Hawkesbury on Cape Breton Island for fractionation. The plant processes 7,000 b/d of propane, 3,000 b/d of butane, and 10,000 b/d of condensate.

SOEP partners are ExxonMobil Canada 50.8%, Shell Canada Ltd. 31.3%, Imperial Oil Resources 9%, Pengrowth Energy Trust 8.4%, and Mosbacher Operating Ltd. 0.5%.
