HOUSTON, Oct. 10 -- Hoan Vu Joint Operating Co., operator of Block 9-2 in the Cuu Long basin off Vietnam, plans development drilling starting in the second quarter 2007 based upon recent test results from an appraisal well.

Soco International PLC, London, reported the CNV-4X ST well on Ca Ngu Vang (CNV) structure tested at 5,333 b/d of crude and 10.3 MMcfd of gas. Soco subsidiary, Soco Vietnam Ltd., holds a 25% working interest in the block.

An open-hole test ran for 13 hr from a basement interval of 1,350 m. The appraisal well was a reentry and sidetrack into the CNV-4X, suspended in December 2005 upon encountering an oil and gas interval with unexpected high pressure.

The CNV-4X ST was drilled to 6,330 m, making it the longest MD well to be drilled in Vietnam, Soco reported.

Previously, Soco said the CNV-4X appraisal well on Block 9-2 encountered "good oil and gas shows" in Oligocene "E" sequence sandstones (OGJ, Dec. 12, 2005, p. 43). The field already was declared commercial (OGJ, May 15, 2006, Newsletter).
