Companies sign MOU for Gjoa topsides

Statoil ASA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Aker Kvaerner for the fabrication and mating of the topsides of the semisubmersible platform planned for Gjøa oil and gas field in the Norwegian North Sea (OGJ Online, Aug. 24, 2006).

HOUSTON, Oct. 3 -- Statoil ASA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Aker Kvaerner for the fabrication and mating of the topsides of the semisubmersible platform planned for Gjøa oil and gas field in the Norwegian North Sea (OGJ Online, Aug. 24, 2006).

Both companies will work toward a final contract covering detail engineering, procurement, construction, and assembly of the topsides, plus mating with the platform hull.

Gjøa is scheduled to come on stream in 2010.

The project team has yet to award contracts for the drilling rig, subsea production facilities, hull, living quarters, cables, flexible risers, pipeline steel, and installation.
