HOUSTON, Sept. 13 -- Whittier Energy Corp. reported being "on track" to participate in 46 new wells this year—a record number for the company.

Through Sept. 8, the Houston independent has participated in 28 wells, with 24 of them being successful. The firm's current production has risen to 20 MMcfd of gas equivalent, a 42% increase from production at yearend 2005.

The company currently has four rigs running—two operated and two nonoperated. These rigs include one drilling the Rebel No. 5 well in Windham field in the Permian basin. The well spudded on Sept. 9. Another nonoperated rig is drilling the Diamond Development No. 1 well in Gillis English Bayou.

The company plans to test the recently drilled Westhoff No. A-1 well.

Also, the Duhon No. 1 well, in Lafayette Parish, La., has been returned to production. The well, which was shut-in by the operator in July to repair casing, is currently producing at about 6 MMcfd of gas equivalent. Volumes will be monitored over the next few weeks to ensure the well is producing at optimum levels. The company owns a 9.75% working interest in the well.
