LOS ANGELES, Sept. 29 -- Petrovietnam has awarded Malaysia's Nacap Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd. a $65 million contract for engineering, procurement, and construction of its planned gas pipeline from Phu My to Ho Chi Minh City.

The 40-km, 22-in. pipeline has a design capacity of 2 billion cu m/year of gas. It will transport gas from offshore Cuu Long and Nam Con Son fields to electric power plants in Hiep Phuoc industrial zone in Ho Chi Minh City and the Nhon Trach industrial zone in Dong Nai province.

After the contract takes effect Oct. 1, Nacap will design and construct in 18 months the pipeline and three gas distribution stations—one at the Phu My complex and two others in the Nhon Trach and Hiep Phuoc industrial zones—and then will operate the facilities on a trial basis.
