MOL to expand Pakistani exploration operations

Hungary's MOL Rt reported it will expand its Pakistan operations by drilling more exploratory wells this year.

KARACHI, Sept. 8 -- Hungary's MOL Rt reported it will expand its Pakistan operations by drilling more exploratory wells this year. MOL also is working on several potential projects after making significant hydrocarbon discoveries on the Tal Block in Pakistan's North West Frontier province (NWFP).

The company started supplying more than 50 MMcfd of natural gas from its Manzali-1 (Gurguri) well to Sui Northern Gas Pakistan Ltd. NWFP's Kohat district.

It is also producing 500 b/d of crude from Makori-1 as well as substantial quantity of gas. It has recently announced successful completion of tests for Manzali-2, the third well on the block.

The firm is working in Pakistan through its subsidiary MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Co. BV since April 1999. The petroleum concession and exploration license was granted to MOL (TAL Block no. 3370-3) in NWFP with joint venture partners Oil & Gas Development Co. Ltd., Pakistan Petroleum Ltd., Government Holdings (Pvt.) Ltd., and Pakistan Oilfields Ltd.
