LOS ANGELES, Sept. 27 -- Iran has reiterated its warning to Japan to finalize an agreement to develop the Azadegan oil field in Iran or risk losing the project to a domestic contractor.

"If the Japanese response for development of this oil field is negative, the development operations will start through domestic sources," said Iranian Oil Minister Kazem Vaziri Hamaneh.

In May, an Iranian oil executive warned Japanese companies against delaying development of Azadegan field, suggesting that the massive project could be transferred to China or another country (OGJ Online, May 26, 2006).
