HOUSTON, Sept. 27 -- Artumas Group Inc., Calgary, reported pay thicknesses in Tertiary Miocene and Oligocene to be 1.5 times as thick in the Mnazi Bay-2 appraisal well as they were in the 1982 ARCO Oil & Gas Co. Mnazi Bay-1 discovery well.

Logs indicated more than 100 ft of net pay between 5,575 ft and 6,340 ft, the company said, and reservoir quality is much better at the structurally higher appraisal location.

Drillstem tests of two intervals flowed gas at rates of 7.6 and 8.6 MMscfd with no water content and a sand face pressure drawdown of less than 1.5%, Artumas said. Two other zones were to be tested.

If placed on production, the field could be the first to produce in the Rovuma basin.
