HOUSTON, Sept. 21 -- Canadian Imperial Venture Corp., St. John's, Newf., let a contract for a 70-day extended well test of the Garden Hill ST-2 well onshore western Newfoundland.

PDI Production Inc., New Minas, NS, will operate the test on behalf of itself, CIVC, and Gestion Resources Ltd. PDI plans to re-enter the well by the end of October.

The unstimulated ST-2 flowed 200 b/d of oil without water and 1.2 MMcfd of gas from the Ordovician Upper Aguathuna formation on a short drillstem test and was still cleaning up when the test ended.

The nearby discovery well, Port-au-Port-1, tested at maximum rates of 1,750-2,400 b/d of 51° gravity oil with 30% water cut and 1.2 MMcfd of sweet gas from the equivalent pay zone at 11,400 ft in 1995. Neither well has been on sustained production, but Port-au-Port-1 has recovered 21,400 bbl of oil during tests, CIVC said (OGJ Online, July 7, 2006).
