HOUSTON, Sept. 27 -- Bill Barrett Corp., Denver, plans to pursue a basin-centered gas project in the mostly oil-prone Big Horn basin of north-central Wyoming.
The company holds 123,000 net undeveloped acres in the basin's core area. The area of interest is bounded roughly by Grass Creek, Manderson, Byron, and Oregon Basin oil fields.
The company plans to acquire a 3D seismic survey in late 2006 in the general area of the 1976 Sellers Draw-1 discovery well in Park County. That well, two townships north of Grass Creek field, went to TD 23,081 ft and produced 3.4 bcf from Cretaceous Muddy below 19,500 ft. It was once the deepest well drilled in the Rockies.
The company lists potential pay zones as the Lance at 8,000-14,500 ft, Meeteetse at 9,500-16,000 ft, Mesaverde at 10,000-17,500 ft, and Muddy at 18,000-19,000 ft. It plans to target estimated ultimate recovery of 3-5 bcf/well.
