HOUSTON, Aug. 31 -- Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Co. (Takreer) has let a contract to Foster Wheeler International Corp. for a detailed feasibility study for a grassroots refinery next to Takreer's 350,000 b/cd Ruwais refinery.

Takreer also awarded Foster Wheeler a feasibility study for a new visbreaker unit at the Ruwais refinery, for which Foster Wheeler had completed a feasibility study to increase gasoline production and to produce aromatics.

Slated for completion by yearend, the studies entail assessing commercially available and proven technologies for the production of high-quality distillates and for residue upgrading. Also, they call for Foster Wheeler to develop optimized process configurations, cost estimates, and project implementation schedules, including for a new subsea crude pipeline for the grassroots refinery.
