HOUSTON, July 26 -- Total E&P Congo made an oil discovery in the Moho-Bilondo exploration permit in about 600-900 m of water 80 km off Congo (Brazzaville).

The Mobi Marine 2 discovery well, drilled to 2,269 m TVD, identified two new oil-bearing structures at the base of the Upper Miocene over a combined thickness of 30 m. Appraisal is under way, and Total is preparing a development plan.

The discovery is the first step in a plan to boost reserves from the Moho-Bilondo first phase development, which started in late August 2005. This first phase comprises 12 subsea wells tied back to a floating production unit with a 90,000 b/d throughput capacity.

The field's production, expected to be transported to the Djéno terminal, is scheduled to come on stream in 2008.

Total E&P is the field operator and holds a 53.5% interest. Chevron Overseas Congo Ltd. has a 31.5% interest, and Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo, 15%.
