Statoil's Edvarda well comes up dry

Statoil ASA, operator of Production License 322, has reported a dry hole with its exploration well in the Edvarda structure 100 km northwest of Ormen Lange gas field in the southern part of the Norwegian Sea.

HOUSTON, July 25 -- Statoil ASA, operator of Production License 322, has reported a dry hole with its exploration well in the Edvarda structure 100 km northwest of Ormen Lange gas field in the southern part of the Norwegian Sea.

The 6403/6-1 well, drilled to 4,095 m TD subsea by Ocean Rig ASA's Eirik Raude semisubmersible drilling rig, was to examine the potential for oil and gas in possible Cretaceous sands in Edvarda.

Interests in the license are Statoil 90% and Royal Dutch Shell PLC 10%.
