MMS notes seven deepwater strikes in 2006

Operators have made seven deepwater oil and gas discoveries in the US Gulf of Mexico since the beginning of the year, the Minerals Management Service reports.

HOUSTON, July 19 -- Operators have made seven deepwater oil and gas discoveries in the US Gulf of Mexico since the beginning of the year, the Minerals Management Service reports.

The discoveries are:

-- Gotcha by Total E&P USA Inc. in 7,600 ft of water on Alaminos Canyon 856 (OGJ Online, July 13, 2006).

-- Thunder Bird by Murphy Oil Corp. in 5,673 ft of water on Mississippi Canyon 819 (OGJ, July 3, 2006, Newsletter).

-- Caesar by Kerr-McGee Corp. in 4,457 ft of water on Green Canyon 683 (OGJ, May 22, 2006, Newsletter).

-- Claymore by Kerr-McGee in 3,700 ft of water on Atwater Valley 140 (OGJ, May 15, 2006, Newsletter).

-- Pony by Hess Corp. in 3,497 ft of water on Green Canyon 468 (OGJ Online, July 17, 2006).

-- Raton by Noble Energy Inc. in 3,400 ft of water on Mississippi Canyon 248 (OGJ Online, June 16, 2006).

-- Redrock by Noble Energy in 3,334 ft of water on Mississippi Canyon 204 (OGJ, May 1, 2006, Newsletter).
