HOUSTON, July 25 -- Breaker Energy Ltd., Calgary, said an exploratory well near Girouxville, Alta., has 400,000 to more than 1 million bbl of recoverable oil and the thickest light oil sand pay yet encountered in the area.

The company's well at 13-15-76-22w5 has pay in Granite Wash and Beaverhill Lake formations.

Breaker Energy perforated all 6 m of Granite Wash pay that averages 19% porosity for a flow of 1,500 b/d of 44° gravity sweet oil at less than a 10% pressure drawdown on a 12-hr test. No water leg is visible on logs.

Granite Wash in the area has a strong water drive, and therefore the company expects a high recovery factor without waterflooding.

The well's 2 m of Beaverhill Lake pay is untested and behind pipe. Porosity averages 12%. The zone is analogous to moderately permeable wells in the company's nearby Beaverhill Lake B pool. It is estimated to be capable of 100 b/d.

Breaker has 100% interest in four quarter sections that contain the structure. Up to three offset locations are possible, but the 13-15 well should be able to drain the bulk of the Granite Wash oil given its high structural position and excellent reservoir quality, the company said.

Follow up locations will target Granite Wash attic oil, Beaverhill Lake step-outs, and Slave Point seismic anomalies.

Meanwhile, the company's 3-28 and 11-29 Slave Point discoveries at Girouxville early this year have begun to stabilize at 200 b/d each with current oil cuts averaging above 80% after having produced a combined 30,000 bbl in the past several months. Breaker is proceeding with waterflood implementation.
