HOUSTON, July 28 -- Galaxy Energy Corp., Denver, plans further coalbed methane exploration on the Neues Bergland permit near Frankfurt, Germany, after abandoning the first wildcat.

A Galaxy subsidiary tested four zones in the Glantal-1 well without encountering significant gas flows. A Koller-Workover & Drilling GMBH completion rig drilled the hole to 1,687 m TD.

Galaxy operates a four-company joint venture exploring the 149,000-acre permit in the Saar-Lorraine basin. It holds a 30% working interest through wholly owned subsidiary Pannonian International Ltd.

The permit contains the Pfalzer anticline, a convex fold structure 40 km long and 18 km wide that Galaxy says holds deep, high-rank coalbeds.

Galaxy plans a seismic survey to help identify future drilling targets.
