HOUSTON, July 25 -- Edge Petroleum Corp., Houston, plans more drilling on the Midway Dome in Lamar County, Miss., after an exploratory well logged a total of 140 ft of apparent net pay in five zones.

The Patterson-2, 32-4n-15w, which Edge operates with 75% working interest, was to begin testing next week and go on production in 30-45 days. It is Edge's first deep well in the Mississippi Salt basin.

The company said in June that it was sidetracking the well after pipe stuck at 15,000 ft. By that time it logged 40 ft of apparent pay in James lime, which produces in an offset well, and 10 ft of apparent pay in an Upper Hosston sand. The sidetrack was aimed at testing Middle and Lower Hosston, the primary targets.

Edge recently completed reprocessing 240 sq miles of 3D seismic data in the basin and plans to gather 33 sq miles of proprietary 3D seismic data by the end of 2006 to support its 2007 drilling.

The company said the drilling results "confirmed our belief that reprocessed 3D seismic can better image the deep salt-sediment interface."
