HOUSTON, June 1 -- The government awarded a concession to Indago Petroleum Ltd., Dubai, that could lead to development of RAK B (Baih) oil and gas field in the Persian Gulf.

The former Vitol Group's RAK B-1 discovery well tested at 6 to 7 MMcfd of gas and 1,800-2,200 b/d of condensate from Lower Cretaceous Thamama and 3,000 b/d of oil from Upper Cretaceous Ilam in 1976, but two later wells were disappointing.

A joint venture of Indago, operator with 40% interest, and Ras Al Khaimah Gas Commission 60% plans to inspect the B-1 platform to determine whether further drilling and facilities installation is justified. Rakgas operates the Khor Khwair gas processing plant.

Indago cited advanced drilling and completion techniques, considerable differences between recent 3D seismic data and the 2D data available on discovery, existence of producing infrastructure at offshore Saleh field, and the onshore gas processing plant in Ras al Khaimah. The plant serves Bukha field off Oman, which Indago operates.

Indago is drilling a well on the West Bukha structure in the western Straits of Hormuz off Oman (OGJ Online, May 24, 2006).
